A Working Waterfront With A Marine Corps Next Door
Sneads Ferry is an unincorporated village on the southwestern bank of the New River, and it is named for exactly what it sounds like: the ferry Robert Snead ran across the water in the 1700s, long before anybody built a bridge. Commercial fishing made the place and still gives it its character. Shrimping most of all — the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival is the official shrimp festival of the state of North Carolina, and it reached its 55th year in 2026, which makes it considerably older than most of the housing now going up around it.
The second defining fact is Camp Lejeune. The base’s Courthouse Bay and Stone Bay areas sit immediately across from the village, and a gate on that side puts Marines and their families into local businesses on an everyday basis rather than an occasional one. That produces an audience most villages this size do not have: young, rotating on a two-to-three-year cycle, on a predictable pay calendar, and permanently in the market for the things people need when they arrive somewhere new. Auto work. Storage. Tax preparation. Gyms, barbers, dentists, insurance, phone plans, furniture rental.
The third fact is arithmetic. Three venues is a small footprint and pretending otherwise would waste your money. This is not a reach buy — it is a frequency buy. With only three rooms in the market, the same audience meets the same placements repeatedly, which means creative that rotates every few weeks will land far better here than a single execution left running for a quarter. If you need scale, pair Sneads Ferry with Jacksonville up the road and treat the two as one Onslow County plan.
