Mooresville, North Carolina

Indoor Billboard Advertising in Mooresville, NC

Nine venues in Race City USA — every one of them a room with tables, in a town built on race shops, Lake Norman and a Main Street that still fills up.

The Market

Race City USA, and What That Means for a Media Buy

The nickname is earned. More than 60 NASCAR teams and racing-related businesses operate out of Mooresville, along with IndyCar operations and the supply chain feeding both. The NASCAR Technical Institute opened here in 2002 and is still the only campus in the country offering NASCAR-endorsed technician training, out of a 146,000-square-foot facility about 20 miles north of Charlotte. Lowe’s runs its corporate headquarters from the same town. For a place of roughly 54,000 people, that is an unusual concentration of skilled-trade payroll and executive payroll sitting side by side.

It is also filling up quickly. The population is up close to 13% since the 2020 census counted 50,555, and Iredell County led the entire Charlotte metro for growth again between July 2024 and July 2025, adding nearly 5,700 residents. A good share of them are not making the daily run down I-77 — they work in the shops, on the water, or in the retail and service economy that has grown up around both.

Lake Norman is the other half of the story. It is the largest man-made lake in North Carolina, created between 1959 and 1964 when Duke Energy closed Cowans Ford Dam, and it carries 520 miles of shoreline and more than 50 square miles of surface water. That produces a real warm-season swing in local trade: marine services, docks, boat sales, contractors and restaurants all run heavier from spring through early fall. Advertisers chasing that money want to be on screen before the season opens, not halfway through it.

The nine Mooresville placements are all food and drink — four restaurants, two pizzerias, a taqueria and two taprooms. There is no gym or salon in this set, and that changes the character of the buy: every impression here happens at a table, over a meal or a pint. Geographically they fall into two groups. Four are packed into a mile-wide pocket on the west side of town, four sit in and around the downtown blocks where Main Street’s shops and restaurants are, and one is about a mile and a half north of downtown. Racing suppliers, marine and dock services, home builders, staffing firms recruiting for the shops, and Charlotte advertisers who want the north end of the metro without paying for the whole city all fit this list neatly.
